A man who allegedly killed an 18-year-old man in Long Beach in 2015 was in custody Thursday following his arrest in Mexico.
Albert Rodriguez, 25, was arrested on Wednesday in the death of Ruben Barrera, who was gunned down about 11:50 p.m. on June 5, 2015, in the 5400 block of Elm Avenue, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
In November 2015, detectives had identified Rodriguez as the suspect in the killing, police said. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and a $2 million arrest warrant was issued, police said.
“Recently, homicide detectives received information that Rodriguez was in Mexico near the U.S. border and began to coordinate his arrest,” police said.
LBPD homicide detectives partnered with the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and Mexican authorities, and Rodriguez was arrested in Baja California, police said.
Mexican authorities transported Rodriguez to the U.S. border, and U.S. Marshals Service personnel transported him to the Long Beach City Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of murder, police said. He was being held on $2 million bail.
