A Mission Viejo man was sentenced Friday to 14 years in prison for a rash of robberies in 2017.

Matthew Scott Rendon, 40, pleaded guilty Nov. 9 to nine counts of robbery and a count of attempted robbery, all felonies.

Rendon, who has been in custody since Jan. 3, 2018, admitted a rash of robberies in San Bernardino and Orange County at the end of 2017, according to sheriff’s officials.

The total loss from the robberies was about $3,500 from stores in Aliso Viejo, Chino, Irvine, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel that included ice cream shops, game stores and gas stations, sheriff’s officials said.

The dates of the robberies were Dec. 1, 4, 6, 11, 21 and 30, 2017, according to court records. The attempted robbery was alleged to also have happened on Dec. 11, 2017, records show.

The handgun-wielding suspect wore an American flag bandana and a thick flannel shirt in the stickups, officials said. When Rendon was arrested, he had those items in his vehicle, officials said.
