Authorities Thursday publicly identified an 84-year-old man struck and killed by a car in Santa Ana whose driver fled the scene.
Santa Ana Police Department officers responded at about 10:50 a.m. on Aug. 26 to the 1700 block of West Third Street, near Santa Ana Boulevard, and found Rafael Garcia lying in the roadway suffering “major injuries,” according to a department statement.
Garcia was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The Santa Ana Police Department was notified Thursday that Garcia died of his injuries.
A preliminary investigation into the collision revealed Garcia was standing next to his parked car when he was struck by a 2006 to 2010 black Toyota Corolla with major damage to its front windshield traveling westbound on Third Street, according to police.
The Toyota was described as having an oxidized roof, a steel front passenger side rim and a custom alloy rear passenger side rim.
Anyone with information on the collision was asked to contact Santa Ana Police Department Investigator L. Bao at 714-245-8223.
