A probationer who sexually assaulted two women sunbathing behind a Temecula residence was sentenced Monday to four years in state prison.
Jacob Brian Paulsen, 26, of Temecula pleaded guilty in April to assault with intent to commit rape, sexual battery and contacting a minor to commit a felony. In exchange for his admissions, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office dropped three related felony charges.
Superior Court Judge Paul Dickerson certified the terms of the plea agreement and imposed the sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ed Seltzer, on the afternoon of March 2, Paulsen walked into the backyard of a property in the 41000 block of Zinfandel Avenue, stripped off his clothes and lunged at two women basking in the sun.
The victims, whose identities were not disclosed, resisted his sexual aggressions, and the defendant ultimately backed off, grabbing his clothes and fleeing the location, according to investigators.
The women, who were not injured, immediately called 911, and patrol deputies arrived within minutes.
They located and arrested the probationer without incident a short time later.
At the time of the attack on the women, Paulsen was free on bail following his arrest three months earlier for contacting a girl with alleged intent to commit unspecified acts.That case was folded into the one that prosecutors filed in connection with the sunbathing assault.
Paulsen had no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County. However, he had a misdemeanor conviction from 2018 for battery, court records showed.
