Prosecutors Tuesday were reviewing allegations against a man suspected of gunning down a 38-year-old Riverside resident in Moreno Valley.

Jerome Roy Jackson, 33, of Fontana was arrested Saturday following a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation into the slaying of Jason Williams.

Jackson was booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of murder. He’s being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The case was submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review. No criminal complaint was filed Tuesday, but prosecutors were expected to make a decision on the case before Wednesday afternoon, when the speedy arraignment window will close. If there’s no filing by then, Jackson would have to be released from custody.

According to sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez, at about 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Jackson confronted Williams in the area of Tea Rose and Blue Lupin lanes, at the south edge of Box Springs Canyon.

Ramirez said the suspect opened fire with a handgun, shooting the victim several times.

A possible motive was not disclosed.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies arrived within a couple of minutes, immediately arresting Jackson.

Ramirez said paramedics attempted life-saving measures on Williams, but he died at the scene.

There was no word on how the victim and suspect were acquainted.

Background information on Jackson was also unavailable.
