A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Moreno Valley, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
The crash occurred at 8:34 p.m. Friday on Alessandro Boulevard near Elsworth Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
A pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart southbound across the street when he was hit by a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Authorities said the driver attempted to stop, but struck the pedestrian when he crossed in front of the truck.
First responders found the pedestrian lying in the roadway without a pulse and suffering from traumatic life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
The driver of the Toyota was uninjured, stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Sheriff’s officials said drugs and/or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The identities of the pedestrian and driver were not released.
