A male in a wheelchair was killed early Monday when he was struck by a vehicle while in the middle of a Jurupa Valley road.

The accident occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on Hall Avenue north of El Rio Avenue, according to Sgt. Javier Morando of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

“Preliminary investigation indicated the driver was traveling southbound on Hall Avenue at or near the posted speed limit,” Morando said. “The pedestrian, who was seated in a wheelchair, was also traveling southbound in the middle of the southbound lane, when he was struck by the vehicle.”

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene for an interview by investigators, the sergeant said.

“It remains unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision,” Morando said.

The name and age of the victim in the wheelchair were not released pending notification of relatives.
