Four people became ill from carbon monoxide fumes Monday at a baggage area in Terminal 8 at Los Angeles International Airport, and a hazardous-materials investigation was underway.
Firefighters were sent to the terminal about 7 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“Due to a hazardous materials investigation by @LAFD terminal 8 is being cleared of passengers. Please follow instructions from first responders and follow us for updates,” LAX officials said in a tweet.
“Passengers are being sent to Terminal 7 for screening and access and Terminal 8 remains closed at this time,” the officials said. “Please check with your airline for updates on flights.”
The four people became overcome by carbon monoxide fumes, and one was in grave condition, according to reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department. The other three victims are experiencing mild distress, the LAFD said.
