A trash-hauling big rig crashed over an embankment of the Foothill (210) Freeway and sparked a small fire in Sunland Monday, leaving the driver in grave condition.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the eastbound 210 Freeway east of Sunland Boulevard at 2:41 p.m. Arriving crews found an overturned big rig that went down an embankment and into a mountainside, with the occupant unresponsive and in grave condition, according to LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.
A small fire sparked by the crash was quickly extinguished, and the driver was taken to a hospital, according to the LAPD.
It was unclear what caused the truck to go off the freeway.
