A man convicted of strangling his wife and drowning their nearly 2-month-old son at their apartment in the unincorporated Westmont near Inglewood was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

In a non-jury trial, Superior Court Judge Scott Millington found Algernon Fitzgerald Rieux, now 34, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the June 2015 killings of his wife, Jacqueline Montoya, and their 7-week-old son, Joshua Eli-King Rieux.

The special circumstance allegation of multiple murders was also found true, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The two victims were found dead June 4, 2015, inside their apartment in the 11100 block of South Normandie Avenue, near Imperial Highway, authorities said.

Rieux was arrested early the next morning in the San Pedro area by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and has remained behind bars since then, jail records show.
