A 19-year-old man and a 50-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of felony embezzlement, burglary and felony possession of stolen property, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Moreno Valley station responded to a warehouse in the 22300 block of Van Buren Boulevard on Thursday to a report of an ongoing embezzlement scheme.
The business reported an estimated loss of $350,000 in stolen merchandise from its warehouse involving two employees, sheriff’s officials said. The employees were identified as 50-year-old Francisco Chavez Cuica and 19-year-old Eduardo Chavez Diaz.
Investigators allegedly found that the stolen merchandise was being sold through online marketplaces.
The sheriff’s Robbery Burglary Suppression Team conducted a search of the suspects’ residence in the 9100 block of Rangpur Circle in Riverside and found around $78,820 in stolen merchandise belonging to the warehouse, officials said.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Joseph Fitzgerald said many stolen items were still outstanding and included Levy electric scooters and Miko toy robots.
