The vice president of the Santa Ana Unified School District Board was booked on suspicion of drunken driving, police said Thursday.

Alfonso Alvarez was involved in a minor traffic collision about 8 p.m. Saturday at Grand and Edinger avenues, according to Santa Ana Officer Natalie Garcia, a spokeswoman for the police department.

Alvarez said the collision was his fault, Garcia said. He appeared to be intoxicated so officers conducted sobriety tests and booked him on suspicion of driving under the influence and released him, she added. Alvarez also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, she said.

Alvarez could not be immediately reached for comment.
