A fire with intense flames burned Wednesday evening at a vacant house in Boyle Heights that had been the scene of many past fires.
Firefighters responded around 8:19 p.m. Wednesday to the fire in the 400 block of South Boyle Avenue, near East Fourth Street and the Golden State (5) Freeway, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.
The 46 firefighters assigned to the fire immediately went to work protecting the house and apartment building next to the burning house, Prange said. They did not enter the house because its structural integrity was compromised by the previous fires, according to Prange.
Firefighters managed to protect both neighboring residential structures and knocked down the bulk of the flames at the vacant house, Prange said.
“This will be an extended operation to slowly and carefully finish eliminating hot spots in the burned out fire unit,” Prange said.
There were no injuries reported.
It’s unclear what may have sparked the fire, and the cause is under investigation.
