A carjacking suspect who led Fontana Police Officers on a two-hour chase Thursday evening was taken into custody in Valencia near Six Flags Magic Mountain with the help of a police dog.

Prior to police surrounding him, the suspect turned to confront officers and was taken down by a dog, ABC7 reported.

The pursuit began around 7:15 p.m. when the suspect held the victim at gunpoint and stole the victim’s Toyota Tacoma truck at a gas station in Fontana, KCAL 9 reported.

Fontana Police Department officers were alerted and began pursuing the stolen vehicle onto the San Bernardino (10) Freeway.

The suspect entered Los Angeles County and continued through downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley on the Hollywood (101) Freeway and then the San Diego (405) Freeway, avoiding a spike strip that police deployed in an attempt to slow him down.

The chase continued at slow speeds on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway as the suspect drove into Santa Clarita, where he hit a spike strip, KABC 7 reported.

The truck began slowing down as one of its front tires began to deflate on the Golden State Freeway.

After stopping on the freeway, the suspect appeared to be surrendering as he stood on the freeway with his hands up and his back to officers before he quickly turned to confront them. Officers then released the dog and moved in to take him into custody.
