Authorities seized firearms, ammunition and narcotics after serving search warrants in two residences in Hemet, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Personnel from the sheriff’s alternative sentencing program and the corrections K-9 team found “three handguns, several hundred rounds of ammunition, 2.1 grams of methamphetamine, 14 grams of cocaine, 16 grams of heroin, check fraud and approximately $13,000” in Friday’s raids, the department said.
The warrants stemmed from an investigation in December of last year, when a sheriff’s gang unit identified an inmate from the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta and a member of the public allegedly smuggling fentanyl and methamphetamine into the detention center.
Sheriff’s officials said four people in total were arrested.
Marcos Lares, 22, of Hemet was arrested for alleged conspiracy and furnishing narcotics to a person in a correctional facility and possession of un unregistered firearm.
Carlos Vitela, 21, an inmate at Cois Byrd Detention Center, was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to smuggle narcotics into a correctional facility.
Peyton Conner, 19, of Hemet was arrested for alleged sales of narcotics while armed with an operable firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.
Ruth Vitela, 49, of Hemet was arrested for an alleged petty theft warrant.
Anyone with further information about the investigation was urged to contact Investigator Franklin Enochs at 951-955-7076.
