Firefighters rescued several people from a blaze at a boarded-up, 13-story high rise in the Koreatown area Sunday, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m. at 560 S. Vermont Ave., with smoke showing from the upper floors, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“Crews located a large amount of rubbish burning on the first floor. The smoke filled the building all the way up to the top floor, where the smoke found a way out of the sealed high rise building,” the LAFD said in a statement.

“Firefighters quickly extinguished the rubbish, but will now be performing a complex ventilation operation to evacuate the smoke from all 13 floors. Firefighters found several people inside, who were effectively rescued,” the department added.

Authorities said it took 78 firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported injuries. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
