A 17-year-old girl died after shooting herself with a firearm she obtained from the holster of a deputy at the Industry Sheriff’s Station during an altercation Sunday evening.

The teen knocked on the door of the station and gained entry around 7:40 p.m. Sunday and withdrew a deputy’s handgun during an altercation that ensued, Lt. Art Spencer told reporters at the scene.

The girl “suffered a self-inflicted wound,” Spencer said. He did not specify whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.

The girl’s name was withheld.

The incident may have been related to an earlier family disturbance call, Spencer told reporters.
