A man allegedly involved in a hit-and-run in the downtown Los Angeles area led deputies on a chase Tuesday in a transit van to East Los Angeles, where he was taken into custody after stopping at a business and running inside.

Deputies began chasing the suspect shortly before 10 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The pursuit began at Vignes and Bauchet streets near the Men’s Central Jail, according to KTLA5.

According to broadcast reports, the driver allegedly struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle with the van, possibly injuring a deputy.

The suspect drove the van, which had a broken driver’s-side mirror, onto the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway and then onto surface streets at Garfield and Gage avenues, pursued by deputies.

At about 10:10 a.m., the suspect pulled into a business parking lot near Bickett and East 54th streets, stopped the van and got out. The man then ran inside the building, followed by deputies who quickly arrested him and brought him outside. His name was not immediately available.
