A brush fire broke out Friday along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley, consuming two to three acres before crews deployed to the location.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:40 p.m. Friday in the area of Limonite and Ridgeview avenues, on the north side of the river bottom, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews from the county and city of Riverside were sent to the location and encountered flames burning through heavy brush at a moderate rate.

Cal Fire aircraft were requested to support ground personnel, but as of 2:10 p.m., they had not yet begun making drops.

There was no immediate word regarding how the brusher might have started. Homeless encampments are spread throughout the river bottom, and warming, cooking and debris fires are common year-round.
