Firefighters Saturday continued battling a 25-acre brush fire along the Santa Ana River bottom in Jurupa Valley.

The blaze was reported at 1:40 p.m. Friday in the area of Limonite Avenue and Bain Street, on the north side of the river bottom, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

As of Saturday morning the fire was 50% contained.

Multiple engine crews from the county and city of Riverside were sent to the location and encountered flames burning through heavy brush at a slow to moderate rate.

Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters were summoned to assist ground personnel, who were pushing into the heavy vegetation to establish containment lines as of 5 p.m. Friday.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened.

There was no immediate word regarding how the brusher might have started. Homeless encampments are spread throughout the river bottom, and warming, cooking and debris fires are common year-round.
