The progress of a brush fire in the Santa Clarita area was stopped at approximately 76 acres Friday evening with six firefighters treated for minor to moderate heat-related illnesses.

The Plenty Fire was reported around 4 p.m. Friday in the area of Copper Hill Drive and Haskell Canyon Road, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department official said.

Responding crews estimated the blaze at 40 acres, with the potential to spread over 100 acres. But an hour later, crews on the scene reported good progress in slowing the blaze, which was then estimated at about 45 acres.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department announced at 8:04 p.m. that progress was stopped at approximately 76 acres.

About an hour into the effort, one firefighter was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital after complaining of weakness and dizziness due to the heat. A second firefighter was also overcome with heat-related issues around 5:30 p.m., and another a short time later, a department official said.

No structures were threatened by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It may have been sparked by a burning vehicle amid high heat, an official said.
