A brush fire erupted Thursday adjacent to Highway 62 in North Palm Springs, burning about five acres and prompting California Highway Patrol officers to shut down a traffic lane for public safety.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:20 p.m. Thursday in the area of the four-lane highway and Painted Hills Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a slow rate in light vegetation between Route 62 and Worsley Road.
CHP officers closed the No. 2 lane on the northbound side of the highway at the request of firefighters trying to establish containment lines, according to reports from the scene.
As of 3:50 p.m., the fire was slowing down but not yet contained.
There was no immediate word regarding how the brusher might have started.
