Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters engaged in an intense battle with a Greater Alarm fire at a vacant one-story church before containing and extinguishing it Tuesday in East Hollywood.

Fire crews responded at 3:52 a.m.1017 N. Heliotrope Drive near Santa Monica Boulevard at the boarded up, 4,100-square-foot church where they found flames engulfing the building, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.

It took 96 firefighters 57 minutes to extinguish the blaze and no injuries were reported.
