One person is in critical condition Friday after being rescued from a raging fire at a vacant three-story apartment building under construction in Chinatown that Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were able to extinguish after a prolonged battle.

Fire crews responded at 3:43 a.m. to 877 N. Bunker Hill Ave. near College Street and east of the Harbor (110) Freeway where they encountered intense flames burning on the first and third floors of the vacant building and had spread to two nearby apartment buildings, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

In addition to the person in critical condition, two others were rescued but chose not to go to a hospital, the LAFD reported. According to Fox 11, four others were injured.

The LAFD reported 10 people have been displaced by the fire and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist them, Stewart said.

It took over 130 firefighters an hour and 36 minutes to contain the flames.

The LAFD Arson Section will be in charge of investigating the cause of the fire.
