A fire that erupted Friday in an RV on the Soboba Indian Reservation in San Jacinto injured a man and destroyed the camper, burning into surrounding brush before crews stopped it.

The blaze was reported at 10:25 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Soboba Road and Chabela Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that engine crews from the tribal fire agency and county were sent to the location and encountered the RV in flames.

A man who may have tried to extinguish the fire suffered burns to one of his hands, according to reports from the scene.

He was taken to San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning for treatment.

The blaze consumed the RV and extended into nearby vegetation but apparently did not threaten any structures. It was completely contained by 11 a.m., officials said.

The cause was under investigation.
