A barricaded suspect is in a six-hour standoff with personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau Tuesday in the unincorporated area west of South Gate.

Deputies from the Century Station responded at 10:29 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of Nadeau Street east of Central Avenue regarding a suspect wanted for assault who had barricaded himself, the sheriff’s department said.

The department’s Special Enforcement Bureau was called to the scene and are attempting to coax the suspect into surrendering.

For their safety, deputies have evacuated the surrounding residences during the barricade, the department said.
