Police recovered a gun from a suspect they later learned was a prohibited possessor in Long Beach, authorities said Friday.
Officers from the Long Beach Police Department stopped a pedestrian in the area of 12th Street and Pine Avenue at 4:42 p.m Wednesday. During their investigation, the officers recovered a firearm from the suspect, who they later arrested after learning the suspect was a prohibited possessor, according to the police department.
In California, a person is prohibited from possessing firearms if they meet certain criteria, including being convicted of a felony; being convicted of certain misdemeanors; being the subject of a domestic violence restraining order; being addicted to the use of any narcotic drug and being ordered not to possess firearms as a condition of probation, among other criteria, according to the state penal code
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
