A man who police say was armed with a handgun during a confrontation in East Los Angeles is in the hospital Tuesday after he was shot by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy.
Deputies from the sheriff’s East Los Angeles station responded to a call just after midnight regarding a disturbance at a 7-Eleven store at 6571 E. Olympic Blvd. between East Easton and Fairfield streets. When they arrived, they found the suspect armed with a handgun, LASD Deputy Terry Koerner told City News Service.
A deputy-involved shooting occurred and the suspect was taken to a hospital in an unknown condition, Koerner said, and no deputies were injured in the shooting.
It was not immediately known what led to the shooting.
Homicide investigators were called to the scene to interview possible witnesses to the shooting.
