A collision involving a Metro bus and a semi truck injured 12 people in South El Monte Wednesday.

The crash between the bus and a parked truck carrying lumber was reported around 6 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of North Rosemead Boulevard and Klingerman Street, south of San Bernardino (10) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The Metro bus involved in the crash was heading northbound on Line 266, operated by a contractor on behalf of the department, a spokesperson for Metro said.

Seven of the people in the crash, including the bus driver, were taken to the hospital by paramedics, according to Metro.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that an elderly male passenger sustained severe head trauma and was listed in critical condition, while the other occupants suffered minor injuries.

The northbound lanes of the intersection were closed.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our community. We are actively investigating the cause, and our thoughts are with those who were injured,” Temple Sheriff’s Cpt. Jorge Meza said in a statement.

LASD Temple Station Traffic detectives were leading the investigation into what caused the accident.
