The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office Tuesday identified an 87-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Echo Park.

The woman was identified as Lai Har Chu of Monterey Park, according to the agency.

Chu was struck on Jan. 13 around 6:50 p.m. as she was walking westbound inside a crosswalk at the intersection of Berkeley Avenue and Allesandro Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said she was struck by a dark-colored Ford Transit van heading southbound on Allesandro Street, and the motorist drove off without stopping to render aid. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“In the event of a traffic collision, motorists are required to stop, check on all parties involved, and request paramedics if medical attention is needed,” police said in a statement. “Providing contact information is essential to ensure accountability and avoid turning a traffic incident into a criminal offense.”

The city offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of suspects in a fatal hit-and-run.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal collision was urged to contact LAPD Central Traffic Investigator M. Figueroa at 34332@lapd.online, or 213-833-3713. Calls during non-business hours or weekends should be directed to 877-527-3247. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
