An 18-year-old San Bernardino County man was charged Monday with murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Long Beach last December.

The murder charge against Mario Amarion Jennings of Rancho Cucamonga includes allegations that he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun and that the crime was committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with a criminal street gang with the specific intent to promote, further and assist in criminal conduct by gang members.

Jennings was arrested last Thursday in Rancho Cucamonga in connection with the Dec. 10 killing of 32-year-old Dwayne Walton of Los Angeles, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Via Camelitos at around 1:15 p.m. Dec. 10 to reports involving shots fired, according to police. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jennings has remained behind bars in lieu of $3 million bail since his arrest, jail records show.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said last week.
