One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI checkpoint in Cathedral City, authorities said Monday.
The checkpoint was held between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. the following morning at the intersection of eastbound East Palm Drive and West Buddy Rogers, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
In addition to the DUI suspect, police cited two drivers for driving without a license and seven drivers for not having a license in their possession out of 491 total vehicles screened — approximately 35% of all vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, according to the police statement.
The location of the checkpoint was based on data of reported impaired driving-related crashes, officers said.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
