A pedestrian struck and killed in Lake Elsinore by a hit-and-run motorist who remains at large was identified Thursday as a 44-year-old resident of the city.
Joshua Nichols was fatally hit sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Tuesday on Riverside Drive between Gunnerson and Baker streets, on the northeast edge of Lake Elsinore, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Brad Foster said that Nichols was walking along Riverside when an unknown vehicle slammed into him.
The driver, who hasn’t been identified, fled the location, Foster said.
He said another motorist came upon the victim lying in the roadway and called 911.
Paramedics pronounced Nichols dead at the scene minutes later.
Investigators are seeking help from the public in identifying the car and driver involved in the hit-and-run. Anyone with information was urged to contact the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3000.
