Authorities sought the public’s assistance Friday in locating two suspects responsible for the murder of a 42-year-old man shot dead in the Westmont area of South Los Angeles five years ago.
The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. July 12, 2019, outside a residence in the 1000 block of West 94th Street, where the victim, Corey Pickett, was visiting family and friends, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Pickett and a friend were outside admiring a family member’s new car when a dark-colored sedan pulled up in front of the residence, investigators said. The suspects’ vehicle stopped, and one male suspect exited the passenger side and opened fire.
Pickett was struck multiple times and died at the scene. Another man was injured but recovered.
The suspects were last seen heading east on 94th Street toward Vermont Avenue, according to investigators.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has authorized a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
