A U.S. Postal Service carrier was shot in the arm Monday near the Green Meadows area of South Los Angeles, and police were searching for a suspect who fled the scene.
The shooting was reported at 11:40 a.m. in the area of Century Boulevard and Central Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim, believed to be about 35 years old, was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, said LAPD Officer Drake Madison.
“The United Sates Postal Inspection Service and the Los Angeles Police Department responded after receiving reports of a letter carrier who was shot in the South Los Angeles area,” Postal Inspector Patricia Mendoza said in a statement. “The Postal Inspection Service can confirm the postal employee was shot. This is an active investigation, and no additional information can be provided at this time.”
A USPS truck was visible in a news report from the scene, which indicated the carrier was shot in an alley.
The suspect was described as a male about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, and wearing a black hat, black shirt and black pants. He was last seen fleeing east on Century Boulevard from Central Avenue toward Watts, police said.
