Twenty people were injured, one critically, when a bus struck train tracks and overturned in Lancaster Wednesday.

The crash was reported about 11:30 a.m. near Sierra Highway and West Avenue C, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The city bus landed on its side.

The bus appeared to have veered off Sierra Highway for unknown reasons, then drove onto an embankment and over the railroad tracks, causing it to overturn.

Multiple ambulances were requested, along with a medical helicopter for an 8-year-old boy who was among those injured, but was considered in stable condition.

Crews on the scene reported a total of 20 patients, with one of them in critical condition.

The railroad tracks, which are used by Metrolink and Union Pacific, were also damaged, and county fire crews notified both agencies.
