A suspected gunman who barricaded himself in the Boyle Heights area was shot by police Monday morning and killed.

Officers responded about 8:30 a.m. to a call of a man with a gun in the area of Spence and Eighth streets, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man barricaded himself at the location and a SWAT team was called in, Eisenman said.

There was an officer-involved shooting and the man was struck.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the 1100 block of Lorena Street, near the intersection of Spence and Eighth streets, and pronounced one person, described as a man about 30 years old, dead at the scene, department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart told City News Service.
