At least one person died Sunday when a Tesla struck a guardrail on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway in Moreno Valley and went over the side of the road.

The crash was first reported at 9:42 p.m. Sunday on the westbound Moreno Valley Freeway at Heacock Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Witnesses told the CHP the driver and three other people were trapped inside the black Tesla and that the car was driven recklessly before the crash.

Three people were taken by ground ambulance to a hospital with moderate to serious injuries, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

It was not clear whether any of those patients died at the hospital or if there was a death at the scene. The CHP’s log did not indicate that the Riverside County Coroner’s office had been summoned to the scene.

A Sigalert was issued at 10:16 p.m. shutting down the two right lanes of the westbound Moreno Valley Freeway at Heacock Street.
