A convicted robber suspected of kidnapping a woman in Fullerton has been indicted by a federal grand jury, according to court records obtained Friday.

Prosecutors with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday dismissed their case against Arturo Urbina Jr., 30, of Los Angeles, who was charged in state court with a felony count of kidnapping. The charges were dropped due to the federal indictment handed down Tuesday.

Urbina was indicted on charges of kidnapping and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, according to federal court records.

Urbina was accused of kidnapping the woman Dec. 9, according to the criminal complaint filed in December in state court, which alleged the defendant was convicted of robbery in federal court in June 2013.

A woman told police in Fullerton on Dec. 11 that she was sexually assaulted and kidnapped in Fullerton, police said. She said she met the man a few days earlier through acquaintances, police said.

Urbina, who was accused by the alleged victim to have been armed with several guns, police said.

Urbina led police on a chase that ended when the vehicle he was driving slammed into a pole in Torrance, police added.
