The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Friday announced that a specialized anti-crime unit working out of the Lancaster Station made several arrests after an investigation into a series of carjackings in the Antelope Valley city.
In June, the unit began investigating four incidents in which the suspects used firearms to carjack dirt bikes and minibikes.
“The investigation led to the identification of five juvenile suspects and the service of four separate search warrants,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
According to the statement, those warrants, served on Aug. 11 and 12 in Lancaster, led to the recovery of “one stolen minibike, five illegally possessed firearms, components for producing unregistered firearm parts, 17 pounds of methamphetamine, two pounds of fentanyl, two kilos of cocaine, two kilos of heroin, additional illegal narcotics including ecstasy, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana, illegal gambling machines (and) $23,000 in U.S. currency.”
Two of the juvenile suspects have been arrested and the case remains under investigation.
“By removing these dangerous drugs and illegal weapons, we’ve prevented them from causing further harm in our community,” sheriff’s Capt. Paul Bartlett said. “Lancaster Station remains fully committed to protecting our residents by targeting violent offenders and keeping illegal firearms and narcotics off our streets.”
Anyone with information related to the case or other criminal activity was urged to contact the sheriff’s Lancaster Station at 661-948-8466 or www.lacrimestoppers.org.
