A 19-year-old man accused of attacking two boys during a robbery near a Blythe high school campus was charged Friday with assault resulting in great bodily injury and other offenses.
Jaymien Antonio Solorio of Blythe was arrested Wednesday following a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation.
Along with the assault count, Solorio was charged with second-degree robbery, making criminal threats, receiving stolen property and perpetrating a felony while on bail.
He pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Friday morning before Superior Court Judge Gregory Olson, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for Oct. 14 at the Blythe Courthouse.
Solorio is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail at the Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Kent Eckenrode, around noon Tuesday, Solorio confronted the two juveniles in the 800 block of West Chanslor Way, near North Lovekin Boulevard, in the immediate vicinity of the campus of Twin Palms Continuation High School, which is located just south of Palo Verde High School.
Eckenrode alleged one of the boys was robbed by the defendant, who also beat another teenager who was with the victim.
Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies reached the location a short time later, finding both victims. The youth who was allegedly assaulted was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified non-life-threatening injuries. Eckenrode said the other boy did not require medical treatment.
Solorio was quickly identified as the alleged perpetrator and was located Wednesday morning on Lovekin Boulevard, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities wouldn’t confirm whether the victims or defendant are enrolled at the continuation school, or possibly Palo Verde High.
No information was available regarding the alleged offenses for which Solorio was previously arrested and posted bond.
He has no documented prior felony convictions in Riverside County adult court.
