A man who was struck and killed by a Los Angeles-bound Metrolink train at the downtown Burbank station was identified Tuesday.

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m. Friday on the tracks west of the pedestrian crossing at the downtown Burbank Metrolink Station, 201 N. Front St., between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue, Metrolink spokeswoman Laurene Lopez told City News Service.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner identified the pedestrian as Christopher Duthridge, 47. Duthridge was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said.

“After speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, it was determined that the decedent intentionally positioned himself on the train tracks as the train was approaching,” according to a police statement. “The train, which was traveling northbound, was unable to stop and struck the decedent.”

The train was Route 232 from Lancaster to Los Angeles, she said.

“Investigators spoke with the conductor of the Metrolink train, who had remained at the scene after the collision,” according to the police statement. “Neither drugs nor alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor regarding the conductor.”

According to the medical examiner’s office, Duthridge died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. His death was ruled an accident.

The tracks were closed between the Glendale and Burbank North stations, Lopez said.

Two of the night’s last trains were cancelled and one stopped at the Burbank Airport, she said.

There were no reports of injuries on the train, Lopez said.

Anyone with any information regarding the crash was urged to call the Burbank Police Department at 818-238-3210.
