A grand theft suspect officers were attempting to detain was shot and wounded multiple times by police in Bell Monday.
The shooting occurred about 7:45 a.m. Monday in the 4000 block of East Florence Avenue, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies located a vehicle connected to a reported grand theft. As they approached the vehicle and attempted to detain the driver, an officer-involved shooting occurred, authorities said.
The suspect fled, prompting a vehicle pursuit by law enforcement. The chase continued until reaching the 2500 block of Slauson Avenue, between Santa Fe and Pacific avenues, in Huntington Park, where a brief standoff occurred before the suspect complied and was taken into custody.
“The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Medical aid was immediately rendered to the suspect,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
He was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.
Sheriff’s detectives were sent to the scene about 9:45 a.m. to assist the Bell Police Department in the shooting investigation.
There were no reports of injuries to officers. No details about what led up to the shooting were immediately available.

Henry Zarate is a Victim he deserves JUSTICE the women police shot him by mistake but he left the hospital in a stable condition then the city of Bell police brought him back in a critical condition due to them neglecting him medical attention they are now violating his 1st amendment right they wont even allow his lawyer to go visit him now that my friend is breathing on his own GOD is good and my friend is a miracle we will continue to be the voice for the justice he deserves and we wont stay quite now they even transferred him to the L.A sheriffs department because the bell police did some shady stuff even their chief of police was denying the lawyer to visit his client was denying to give any reports did not help in any way at all just been so evil and they say that when they shot him they gave him medical care right away no they didn’t we have video proof it took them like 10 minutes to even try to help my friend the way they treated him is not acceptable #justiceforhenry
