One student was injured and three were arrested following a fight at West Valley High School in Hemet, police said Friday.
The altercation occurred Wednesday, and the involved students were quickly separated thanks to the intervention of a school resource officer, according to the Hemet Police Department.
One student suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and released the same day, police said. In the hours following the altercation, videos recorded by students appeared on social media, accompanied by false claims that a student had died.
Police confirmed Friday that no fatalities occurred. The department also reported seeing posts online that suggested possible retaliation, and a non-credible threat targeting the school was made Friday.
Police said additional officers will remain in the area in the coming days to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The three students who were arrested were booked into Riverside County Juvenile Hall. Their names were not released due to their ages.
It was unclear what prompted the fight.
Police said they will continue monitoring inaccurate information posted online and emphasized that spreading misinformation diverts safety personnel from where they are needed.
Anyone with additional information was urged to contact the Hemet Police Department at 951-765-2400 or any Hemet Police School Resource Officer.
