The last of seven suspects in a home invasion robbery in Irvine in September has been arrested, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office reported Tuesday.
Darnell Trevon Anderson Walker, 23, of Corona, was arrested Dec. 1 in Nevada and is awaiting extradition, prosecutors said. Walker was charged Dec. 2 with four counts of kidnapping to commit robbery and single counts of robbery and burglary, all felonies, with sentencing enhancements for being armed with a gun during a felony and acting in concert with two or more people to take property.
The other defendants facing the same charges are Nathan Sin, 21, of Upland, Lee Roy Ford, 25, of Adelanto, Jazamine Louise Garner, 21, of Los Angeles, Kahlil Thomas Ware, 19, of Riverside County, Tommy Levion-Elijah Davis, 25, of Montclair, and Mike O Clarence Bonamhillman, 28, of Victorville.
Police were dispatched at 3:33 a.m. on Sept. 23 to the 5100 block of Royale Ave. in Irvine regarding the home invasion, Deputy District Attorney Gerard Gully said in court papers.
A resident told police he was roused by the sound of breaking glass and his brother shouting “break-in,” Gully said.
The man scrambled downstairs and saw three armed suspects. He was ordered to get down while his brother was bound up with tape, Gully said. One of the robbers found another resident upstairs who was calling police, prompting one of the suspects to grab her phone and dash out of the house with his two cohorts, Gully said.
The woman said when she heard the breaking glass she locked herself in her bedroom with her infant son and called 911, Gully said. Her phone was discarded just behind the woman’s home, Gully said.
A license plate reader picked up a suspect vehicle and later found the Dodge Charger about 90 minutes later in Fontana, Gully said. While searching the vehicle, investigators allegedly found an Orange County Jail inmate ID card for Davis as well as his PayPal debit card. Police also found ammunition, a ski mask, black sweatshirt, body guard brand gloves, DMV paperwork issued to Davis and a piece of duct tape, Gully said.
Davis allegedly told investigators that he and Ford “were lookouts” and that he was offered $10,000 to use his car for the night. Davis also was reported to have said the family was targeted because they have $3.8 million in cryptocurrency.
Investigators linked the others to the crime in part through surveillance video from Walmart where the duct tape was bought, Gully said. Davis alleged that Sin was the “ringleader of this theft group,” the prosecutor added.
Sin was linked to the alleged crimes through tattoos on his hands in photographs of himself that he sent to Davis as part of instructions for the heist, Gully said. Davis allegedly identified Walker as a “co-conspirator” he knew from a former job at Scorpion Enterprises in Ontario.
Bonamhillman was booked into Orange County Jail on Nov. 5, Sin was booked on Nov. 8, and Ware was booked Nov. 21. Davis was booked Sept. 27.
Davis has been released from custody over the objections of prosecutors, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Davis is also accused in a July 4 attempted burglary in Laguna Niguel, prosecutors said. Ford was released on $100,000 bail.
Davis is next due in court Dec. 18 for a pretrial hearing in Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach. The other five in the state are next due in court Jan. 15 at Harbor Justice Center for pretrial hearings.
