A 36-year man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley that left four others injured was identified by county authorities Friday.
The victim — identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office as Juan Escobar — was pronounced dead at the scene.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews were called to the southbound freeway, near Penrose Street, at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday where initial reports said a pedestrian was walking in one of the lanes when the two vehicles crashed, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
A 42-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman were listed in serious condition and a 19-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl were listed in fair condition after the crash. All were taken to hospitals for treatment, Lantz said.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of all lanes of the southbound freeway near the Penrose Street exit for an hour while officers investigated the cause of the crash.
