Police opened fire on a suspect in the Mid-City section of Los Angeles Tuesday, but it was not immediately clear if the suspect was hit.

The shooting happened after officers were called at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday to the 1800 block of Alsace Avenue, just south of Venice Boulevard near Redondo Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A suspect in a vehicle who was reported to have pointed a gun at someone who asked him to turn his music down had been taken into custody, a department spokeswoman said, citing preliminary information from the scene.

She later said there had been a shooting involving officers, but withheld details until a spokesman arrived at the scene.

A report from the scene showed a gun and a knife were visible behind a police cruiser at the location, where overhead video showed a large presence of officers.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the location by the LAPD at 7:42 a.m. and one person was taken from the scene to a hospital, but that individual’s age, gender and condition were not available.
