A brush fire that erupted Friday in Wildomar scorched nearly two acres and threatened homes until crews slowed its advance.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:15 p.m. Friday in the area of Palomar and Wesley streets, in the central section of the city, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate across an open field, pushing in the direction of residences along Cielo Vista Way.
A Cal Fire water-dropping helicopter was requested to make targeted runs on the brusher, but as of 1:40 p.m., the chopper was not overhead.
Firefighters deployed for structure protection, preventing the flames from reaching homes, according to reports from the scene.
There was no word on evacuations. Sheriff’s deputies were requested to shut down Palomar between Ione Lane and Wesley for public safety.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
