Three people were injured Monday when a fire broke out in a two-story home and spread to adjacent structures in the Pico-Union area near downtown Los Angeles.

The fire was reported just after 9 a.m. at a Craftsman-style home at 1230 S. Bonnie Brae St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two people were rescued from the second floor, according to Lantz, who said a total of three patients were headed to a hospital.

One corner of the home had partially collapsed soon after firefighters arrived, according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

Crews took up defensive positions, fighting the blaze from outside the structure.

The fire spread to two adjacent buildings. Crews put out the flames in one and then contended with fire in the walls of another, Lantz said.

Building inspectors were summoned to examine the home’s habitability.

Personnel from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and SoCal Gas Company were also called to the scene, Lantz said.
