One man was shot to death and another man was critically wounded Sunday in the Florence-Firestone community of unincorporated Los Angeles County.

The shooting was reported at 1:57 a.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Firestone Boulevard, just east of Compton Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The department said two victims were shot while standing in the parking lot of a strip mall. A third victim, a security guard who was working down the street from the location, was struck by a stray round and was not the intended target, authorities added.

A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The security guard, 27, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, and a 25-year-old man was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs, according to sheriff’s officials.
